76ers tell Ben Simmons they will take him at No. 1
News broke Tuesday that the Philadelphia 76ers have told
former LSU star Ben Simmons that they
will select him with the number one pick in Thursday’s NBA draft. The
promise was given to Simmons after his private workout in Philadelphia.
Simmons later posted a
picture from his workout on Instagram, with the caption, “Trust the
process,” in reference to the recent slogan of the 76ers’ front office.
Simmons is projected to be Philadelphia’s first number one
selection since they picked Allen Iverson in 1996.
Scottie Pippen says ’96 Bulls still best team ever
In the wake of the Golden State Warriors’ surprising
collapse in the NBA Finals, Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen says his 1996 Chicago
Bulls squad is still the greatest basketball team of all time.
Pippen
sounded off on ESPN Radio Monday morning, saying, “You can't be considered
a great team until you win a championship. … No matter how well you do in the
regular season, it has to be capped off with a championship to really mark your
legacy in the game. That's where we see Golden State had some failure there.
They lost their dominance throughout the playoffs.”
Despite winning a record-setting 73 games in the regular
season, the Warriors fell to the Cavaliers in Game 7 Sunday night and failed to
bring home the championship. The 1996 Bulls went 72-10 in the regular season
and defeated the Seattle Supersonics in the Finals, four games to two.
Former Salt Lake Bee Kubitza traded by Angels
Former Salt Lake Bees third baseman Kyle Kubitza was traded
from the Los Angeles Angels to the Texas Rangers for cash considerations Tuesday
morning.
The Orange
County Register referred to Kubitza as a player they once believed to be
the Angels’ “third baseman of the future,” but his recent struggles downgraded
his spot in the depth chart. Kubitza started the season in Salt Lake City and
batted .253 with two home runs and 19 RBI before being designated for
assignment on June 13.
According to Texas' minor league affiliate, Kubitza and
pitching prospect Neal Cotts have been optioned by the Rangers to Triple-A Round Rock
Express.
